The free plan is one staff calendar with unlimited bookings, real two-way calendar sync, email reminders with a one-tap reschedule, and a customer record. A single practitioner can run a business on it permanently and we would rather they did than pay for something they do not need yet.
What it does not have is the second staff calendar, SMS reminders, deposits and group bookings. Those are the things that start mattering the day somebody else starts taking bookings alongside you, and that is the day Pro is worth $19.

Why is it not priced per seat?
Because the receptionist, the six stylists and the owner are eight seats and one front desk, and charging eight times for one front desk is how a business goes back to a paper diary. Every staff calendar is included on Pro.
Why not per booking?
A tool that charges you more when you do more of the thing the tool exists for is not on your side. Bookings are unlimited on every plan, including Free.
Why not per location?
Locations are what Business is for, not something Pro should be punished by. Square Appointments is $49 per location per month on Plus; Book Business is $39 for all of them.
Is the free plan actually usable?
Yes: one staff calendar, unlimited bookings, real two-way calendar sync, email reminders and a customer record. A single consultant can run on it permanently. That is deliberate — SimplyBook.me's 50 bookings a month and Calendly's one event type are the two caps that make people distrust free tiers here.
When is Book cheaper than Calendly?
From the second person. Calendly Teams is $16 per seat, so two people are $32 and eight are $128. Book Pro is $19 at any of those numbers.
When is Book not the cheapest?
For one person. Setmore is free for up to four users and $5 per user a month on annual billing after that; Cal.com and Calendly both have real free tiers; Acuity Starter is $16 to $20. If you are a solo consultant, use one of those and come back when somebody else starts sharing your diary.
