TD1 Personal Tax Credits Return (federal and provincial)

The forms from the Canada Revenue Agency that a new employee or pension recipient in Canada fills in so the right income tax is deducted from their pay: the federal TD1 and, where needed, the TD1 for their province or territory. The employer or payer keeps them and does not send them to the CRA.

For Canada.

The official form comes from Canada Revenue Agency.

SIGNING RULES

How it is signed in Canada

The rules for an official government form depend on where it is signed. Laws change, so check the sources before anyone signs.

TD1

Official form

A TD1 tells an employer or payer which tax credits a person claims, so the right income tax comes off their pay. The employee fills in and signs the federal TD1 and, when they claim more than the basic personal amount, the TD1 for their province or territory of employment, and the payer keeps both.

Steps

  1. Download the 2026 federal TD1 and the TD1 for the province or territory of employment, such as TD1ON, from the CRA page.
  2. Choose who fills each one: the employee fills in and signs both forms.
  3. Send them to the employee before their first pay.

THE RIGHT TEMPLATE

Where it fits

For employees and pension recipients in Canada. In Quebec the federal TD1 goes with Revenu Quebec's own form TP-1015.3-V instead of a provincial TD1. Sign does not rewrite them: you upload the official forms and send them for e-signature.

A CAREFUL CHECK

Before you rely on it

Original Centilio wording, not legal advice. CRA accepts an electronic TD1 when the payer authenticates the individual, keeps the form unalterable and dated, and records a certification such as an I agree button. It does not cover Quebec's TP-1015.3-V or the payer's payroll deductions. The payer reviews each form for reasonableness and keeps it on file. Ask a payroll adviser about anything unusual.
