THE RIGHT TEMPLATE

Where it fits

For a general affidavit in any Indian state, for an office, bank or institution that asks for one. Not for court proceedings, which follow the court's own format. For a change of name, or a name written differently across documents, use the name change or one and the same person affidavit, and where a signed statement is enough, the self declaration.

A CAREFUL CHECK

Before you rely on it

Original Centilio wording, not legal advice. A general affidavit for use in India, affirmed before a notary under the Notaries Act 1952 or a person empowered to administer oaths for affidavits under section 3 of the Oaths Act 1969, on stamp paper or with an e-stamp certificate of the value the state sets for an affidavit (Article 4 of Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act 1899, or the state's own Stamp Act). It is not drafted for court proceedings, which follow Order XIX of the Code of Civil Procedure 1908 and the court's own rules on format, verification and identification. Many government offices now accept a self declaration instead, so check what the office needs. Ask a lawyer when the affidavit concerns property, a dispute or a court.
