A CAREFUL CHECK

Before you rely on it

Original Centilio wording, not legal advice. A special power of attorney under the Powers of Attorney Act 1882 and the Indian Contract Act 1872, limited to the purpose stated, printed on or attached to e-stamp paper of the value set by the state's stamp law (Article 48 of Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act 1899, or the state's own Act) and attested by a notary. If the purpose is to sell, gift or mortgage immovable property, the power must be registered with the sub-registrar where the property is, which several states make compulsory, and pays higher stamp duty. It ends when the purpose is done, when its validity ends, on the principal's death or unsound mind, or on revocation. Offices and banks may ask for their own forms. A power signed abroad must be attested as the law there or an Indian consulate requires and stamped within three months of reaching India. See an advocate before giving a power over property.
